Paleo Valentine's Day with a Few Exceptions

My personal belief is that you should show the people you love that you love them every day - roses and a pricey dinner once a year won't win this girl over, but it is nice to be reminded to bring a little romance in your life. A few flowers, a bottle of champagne, and a few treats for dinner in can make it just as memorable, but don't be afraid to pull out this kind of dinner on an ordinary Friday night.  What I look forward to the most is the cards/notes I get from my husband - he has a way with words that always let me know he loves me, appreciates me, and has a lot of fun with me

See the recipes after the jump!

Starters:
Some spanish cheeses, olives, champagne

Wagyu Fondue:
Fondue is one of my favorite things for a dinner in with my husband or a fun night with friends.  It's interactive, conversation inducing, and forces you to eat slow. (My husband is one of three boys and still has the mentality that he's competing for food, so I find myself eating faster because he's eating faster.....).  Just heat up some beef broth in your fondue pot - we have the Le Creuset one that you can start on the stove - and dice up a nice piece of meat.  I bought some wagyu steak from a local butcher, cubed it up, and put it on our little forks to cook lightly in the bubbling broth.

Salad:
Toss some spring greens with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, sliced almonds and a squeeze of blood orange juice.  Add a couple wedges of blood orange before serving.

Roasted Marrow Bones:
You can get these from butchers or specialty markets, sometimes they're even sold as dog bones.  I used Mark's Daily Apple instructions for roasting them.  I diced up some red bell pepper and let is sit in a few tbs of apple cider vinegar while the bones roasted to be served on top.  They are mineral rich and delicious, and seem like the most decadent of meals. Full disclosure - I love bone marrow, but I love it on toast.  So we had marrow and toast....and cheese.....

Yum! I haven't tried it yet, but I just read a restaurant review of a sexy new place where they said "you haven't lived unless you've licked bone marrow off your lovers body" seriously it said that. I'd rather have it on toast I think :) Not to make this an R rated comment, but it totally reminded me of that!
